Located at the intersection of
Interstates 95 and 495, Foxborough is a growing community of
15,000 known to its residents as "the gem of Norfolk
County". The town is the home of the New England Patriots
National Football League franchise. The team has performed at
Foxborough Stadium on Route One since its opening in 1972.
Foxborough Harness Raceway, adjacent to the stadium, is the
only New England track providing for harness racing. This
facility has been a fixture since the early 1940s.
While Foxborough is proud of these and
other high profile businesses, the town also prides itself on
its small town community feeling. The town has been extremely
successful in maintaining its small town image and rural
characteristics while providing for significant growth. The
700-acre Foxborough State Forest and an additional 1700 acres
owned by the town which are scattered throughout the
community, perpetuate the rural, country setting which is
complimented by the town's close knit neighborhoods.
Civic and sports organizations also play
a major role in promoting and maintaining the strong sense of
community spirit felt by town residents. Founder's Day,
complete with parade and high school band, a haunted house and
pancake breakfast; events such as these are attended by
thousands. This civic pride is instilled in new residents as
well and is exemplified annually by the success of many fund
raising events. Residents are particularly proud of the fact
that Foxborough High School is renowned for its strong sports
tradition with the football team a perennial contender for the
Division Championship.
